Khanda or Quintuplets is a fantastic grouping name in the world of Rhythms. My Guru Ganakalabhushana Vidwan K N Krishnamurthy sir always told me that if I got better in Khanda I shall get better in Rhythms.
Being a teenager at that time I had to question everything that came my way, especially If it was from people who were there to guide me. For example My parents, My Gurus, My elderly relatives. If I did not get the answer that I expected to listen from them then I would naturally rebel and wanted to show them that they were wrong as I was a hot headed teenager you see 😁
But after I had learnt to deal with all my personal fight against my inner ego, I started trying The Grand Khanda and let me tell you, it just started humbling me and started showing me my right place as a musician. Boy it was quite a task to even understand the tiny little characters of Khanda.
I started feeling a lot confident in rhythms and yet also started to realise that the more I know the less I knew in rhythms. It was a paradoxical feeling. But the bliss that I went through is hard to explain in words.
So in this masterclass I am hoping to share some of the details of my journey until now telling you how I have discovered Quintuplets so far. I assure you that it will be a thrilling journey if you are a rhythm freak and if you would like to enjoy the bliss of Khanda.
Come let us explore many facets of Khanda by learning the subdivisions, practicing some exercises, learning some classic compositions and trying to answer some of your questions.
