The Contours of Laya
This masterclass titled, "The Contours of Laya" is meant for any student of music who has a keen ear for rhythm and Tala/Taal
In this masterclass spanning 90 minutes, the topics that I hope to cover are:
- The need for Tala
- Tala as a function of time and space rather than a numeric construct
- Basic analysis of the five nadais, namely Tisram, Chatusram, Kandam, Misram, and Sankeernam
- Exercises to develop control over different Nadais
- Raga-based approach to Kalpana Swaram
- Analyzing the unison of Raga and Laya in Chittaswarams
- The Laya of Raga Alapana
This is going to be an Interactive Masterclass. I am happy to answer any specific questions you may have regarding the topics above. This session ends with a brief Q&A interaction. Registered participants may also pre-submit questions, I will try addressing them online earlier or during the session.
This Masterclass is for serious students who wish to unlock their mastery in Carnatic rhythm.
