Course Description

Ever wanted to play your favorite songs on instruments such as the Violin, Sarangi, or Flute? Then you're in the right place.

Welcome to my GeoShred course where I'll walk you through the nuances, expressions, and detailing of each instrument in a way that your GeoShred skills will be perceived as the real instrument being played to a listener.

So grab your iPad and get started playing your favorite instrument.

Course Objectives
  • Learn to play multiple instruments with precision.
  • Learn the nuances used in each of these instruments.
  • Learn to play with multiple expressions like Legato, Staccato, Vibratos, Trills, Slides/Meend, Gamakas, etc.
  • Learn to play film songs and classical music using Violin, Sarangi, and Flute.
Course Prerequisites
  • Student should have an iPad and must have GeoShred Pro
  • Must have GeoFlute or Naada Bansuri
  • Must have GeoViolin or Naada Carnatic Violin
  • Must have Naada Sarangi (If GeoViolin is not purchased)
  • iPad must be fully charged before the class
  • A Small note book handy for quick notes
  • Install any free Metronome app


Note: iPad requirements (A note from the instructors, Madan Pisharody and Mahesh Raghvan).

Any currently available iPad will do if it's only for GeoShred.

Avoid iPad mini for its screen size being too small. If anybody has iPad mini, they can start learning with it. But eventually they can plan on purchasing a bigger one later for the ease.

Chapter 1

Introduction to GeoShred

Physical Modelling of GeoShred. Strings and Frets, Root; Chromatic and Diatonic. Understand how GeoShred is different from other instruments.

Introduction to the C Major Scale Notes

Comparison to SaReGaMa in terms of notes and terminology. Introduction to preset 'Xitar'. Fingering exercises and playing with the metronome.

Introduction to C Major/Shankarabharnam in Classical Style

Introduction to the ‘Note Name Font’. Play songs in classical style, double speed, and with a metronome.

Introducing Pyramid Exercises

Pyramid exercises – Vertical and Horizontal motions. Introduction to the Major Pentatonic/Mohanam/Bhupali. Skip 2 notes Ma and Ni from the Major scale Pyramid exercise on the Major Pentatonic scale – Vertical and horizontal Gitam/Song on Mohanam/Bhupali

Introducing GeoViolin

Introducing Violin and Finger Expressions. Enabling Key Y Touch - Crescendo slide expressions Introducing Vibratos - Snake Vibratos Play scales and songs using these techniques.

Chapter 6

Introducing the Song - ‘Teri Hai Zameen’

Teach the notes of the song ‘Teri Hai Zameen’. Use slides and Vibratos in the song. Play and provide them with a backing track.

Ear Training

Introduction to minor scale/Aeolian and Legato/Staccato. Learn to identify the motion of notes: High to Low/Low to High; Legato/Staccato; Major/minor; On beat/Off beat; On pitch/Off Pitch; songs and the scale The lesson will also cover Chromatic theory, Sharpening/Flattening, Tone/Semi Tone Guest Lecture: Mahesh Raghavan on Shredding.

Introducing Sarangi

Gamaka exercises include Backward, Forward, Circular, and Runs. Introducing Desh Raag and Vande Mataram in Metronome.

Introducing Hamsadhwani Raag

Hamsadhwani Raag using Meend/Gamakas. Gitam in Hamsadhwani – another form of Pentatonic in Metronome. Guest Lecture: Mahesh Raghavan on Hamsadhwani Gitam.

Introducing Flute

Introducing flute slides in Legatos and Staccatos (Major Scale). Introducing Trill exercises in metronome.

Learn Chinna Chinna Asai using Staccato notes, Komal Ni, or 7th note flat with a backing track.

What happens when I miss a class?

We'll be recording the content for you in case you are unable to make it to the class. If you miss out on anything, you'll have access to the recording in your Course Dashboard. These class recordings are available upto 6 months from the day the class is over.

Do I get study material?

Your teacher might provide you study material to go along with particular lessons. On your class page, you have a lesson plan which would have the files you need to download.
